Lucas Valley Lightning is one of ten swim teams in the Marin Swim League (MSL), a summer league dedicated to providing and preserving quality amateur competitive swimming events for its subscribing membership.
The swim team serves children from ages 4 to 18 who live in Lucas Valley and the surrounding communities. Swimmers of all abilities are welcome. Swimmers can join the team at any age, no prior experience is needed. Children are ready for swim team when they can swim the length of the pool. Swimming skills improve rapidly with practice!
The team is coached by professionals. Parents contribute many hours to run swim meets and other team activities. The team also sponsors social activities such as a pasta feed, a canoe trip, movie nights, and a parent dinner-dance fundraiser. It’s a great way to get to know your neighbors.
Signups are usually held on a Saturday morning in early February, practice begins in mid-March, and swim meets are held on Saturday mornings during May, June and July at pools throughout Marin. Practices are held at the Lucas Valley pool in the afternoon during the school year and in the morning during summer vacation. Coaches will pick up and drop off younger children from Dixie Day Care.
The swim team also sponsors a Tadpole program for children aged 3 to 5. Tadpole signups usually start in late March. The program runs in 3 separate 2-week sessions during May and early June and is taught by the swim team coaches.
